Who are we

A few of us were a part of the Metro-Detroit APRI Chapter and came to the realization one chapter could not cover the vast area of Southeast Michigan. The southeast portion of Michigan has the greatest population of the state which in turn has the most people of color. We wanted to make sure that the people of Detroit and other areas surrounding Detroit can be a voice in their community. So, we start Detroit/Downriver APRI chapter to help our community. The Detroit/Downriver APRI Chapter was established on June 30, 2012 in direct response to the density of the Southeast Michigan area. Our membership covers Detroit, Inkster, Dearborn, Dearborn Heights, and Michigan’s Downriver Cities. We are a 501C3 chapter affiliate of the A. Philip Randolph Institute (APRI). APRI is the senior constituency group of the AFL-CIO which was established by our Co-Founders A. Philip Randolph and Bayard Rustin.
